Feline Wellness Care
Our feline friends have distinctive needs when it comes to wellness and preventive care that begin as a kitten and continue through to their senior years. Cat’s needs are just as important as their canine counterparts. When a cat is in pain, they tend to instinctually hide away in hard-to-find locations. If you have a hard time finding your furry family member, it might be a good time for a checkup!
We are excited to announce that as of December 2024, Amberglen Pet Care has obtained its Cat Friendly Practice certification! Our team has worked diligently over the last 6 months to receive extra training to improve our feline patients’ experience. This includes:
- Team members educated in feline needs, surgery and medicine
- Gentle handling
- Feline-specific advice for pet owners
- Feline-tailored exam room
- Feline-focused hospitalization area
- Feline-sized equipment and facilities
- Cat-specific resources
"Fear Free and Cat Friendly approaches to veterinary care is at the core of every decision I make as a veterinarian. Pets deserve to be treated with respect, empathy and consideration for not just their physical health, but their emotional health as well. I am so proud of my team for putting forth the effort to each individually achieve their Cat Friendly Professional certifications, and also improving our hospitals workflow to better meet the needs of our feline patients.” ~Dr Burris
Kitten Care
For the first year of a cat’s life, we recommend:
- Vaccines and boosters depending on life-style
- Preventive care checkup
- Spaying or neutering
- Intestinal Parasite Testing, Parasite Prevention and Viral Testing
Adult Cat Care
For continuing wellness into a cat’s adulthood, we recommend:
- Vaccines
- Nutritional assessment
- Parasite prevention
- Behavior consultations
- Dental care
- Intestinal Parasite testing
Senior Cat Care
Senior cats should get all the adult cat care as well as routine labs to let us know when we might need to intervene on certain senior disease issues. We recommend these labs for senior cats:
- Blood cell count
- Chemistry
- Urinalysis
- Thyroid testing
We also recommend, depending on age, blood pressure assessment every 6–12 months. If we can detect problems before your pet gets sick enough to show symptoms, we can give a longer and better quality of life to them.
Furthermore, we check on both arthritis and mobility management and assess your senior pet’s nutrition regimen, as their dietary needs change when they grow older.
